Yoga Nidra er yogisk søvn. Nogle steder er det anerkendt som terapiform.
Hvor almindelig søvn er ubevidst, så består Yoga Nidra af bevidst hvile.
Ordet nidra betyder søvn. I hinduisk mytologi er Yoga Nidra Shakti en gudinde, kendt for at holde Vishnu i en søvntilstand. Myten kan spores tilbage til ca. år 300 e.Kr. Yoga Nidra er ikke nogen ny praksis.
En Yoga Nidra består typisk af systematisk afspænding, vejrtrækningsøvelser, kropsscanning og visualiseringer. Undervejs møder man begrebet sankalpa, som betyder intention — et ord eller en retning, der kan støtte én i nuet. Praksissen sigter mod dyb hvile og indre nærvær.
Oprindeligt var formålet med Yoga Nidra åndelig oplysning og selvrealisering, men i dag anvendes praksissen også til fx stressreduktion. Yoga Nidra er inspireret af flere filosofiske retninger, blandt andet Patanjalis Yoga Sutras og de tantriske skoler, hvor verden forstås som et samspil mellem Shiva (bevidsthed) og Shakti (energi).
Transformation
Formålet er at sænke tempoet — mentalt, følelsesmæssigt og fysisk. Når du arbejder med dybe lag af bevidsthed, kan det føre til personlig transformation.
Regelmæssig praksis kan understøtte nervesystemet, forbedre søvn og styrke koncentrationen. Nidra kan øge og regulere hormoner og neurotransmittere, styrke immunforsvaret og øge følelsen af veltilpashed. Under Yoga Nidra bevæger man sig ind i langsomme hjernebølger som theta og delta, hvilket muliggør dyb mental og fysisk restitution. Det har en helende effekt på både krop og sind.

Where ordinary sleep is unconscious, Yoga Nidra consists of conscious rest.
The word nidra means sleep. In Hindu mythology, Yoga Nidra Shakti is a goddess known for holding Vishnu in a state of sleep. The myth can be traced back to around 300 CE. Thus Yoga Nidra is not a new practice.
A Yoga Nidra practice typically includes systematic relaxation, breathing exercises, body scanning, and visualizations. Along the way, one encounters the concept of sankalpa, which means intention — a word or direction that can support you in the present moment. The practice aims to cultivate deep rest and inner presence.
Originally, the purpose of Yoga Nidra was spiritual awakening and self-realization, but today it is also used, for example, for stress reduction. Yoga Nidra is inspired by several philosophical traditions, including Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the tantric schools, where the world is understood as an interplay between Shiva (consciousness) and Shakti (energy).
Transformation
The purpose is to slow down — mentally, emotionally, and physically. Working with deep layers of consciousness can lead to personal transformation.
Regular practice can support the nervous system, improve sleep, and enhance concentration. Yoga Nidra may increase and regulate hormones and neurotransmitters, strengthen the immune system, and enhance a sense of well-being. During Yoga Nidra, one moves into slower brainwave states such as theta and delta, allowing for deep mental and physical restoration. This has a healing effect on both body and mind.
